How it works

  1. Drop your MOV onto the box above: iPhone videos, QuickTime files, Mac screen recordings.
  2. Pick 192 kbps, or 320 for the best quality and 128 for the smallest file.
  3. Download the MP3. Nothing is uploaded; the video is read on your device.
  4. Sound noisy or too quiet? One click sends the same file to the noise remover or the loudness normalizer.

MOV files

MOV is Apple's video format: iPhones and iPads record in it, QuickTime saves it, and screen recordings on a Mac come out as MOV. Its sound is almost always AAC. Only that sound is converted; the picture is skipped, whatever its codec (H.264, HEVC or ProRes).

On a Mac, drag the file in from Finder, or from Photos onto the box.

Keep the original sound instead

An iPhone video's sound is AAC, and the M4A option copies it out exactly as it is: no conversion, no quality lost, and a smaller file than a 320 kbps MP3. Pick MP3 when a player or a site only takes MP3.

Questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs inside your browser, on your own device. Your file never leaves it, so there's no upload to wait for and nothing stored on a server.

Is it really free?

Yes. Converting is free with no limit, no account and no watermark. AudioRinse earns from its cleaning tools; the converters are here because a recording often needs both.

Does it work with HEVC (H.265) iPhone videos?

Yes. Only the sound is converted, so the video's codec doesn't matter: H.264, HEVC and ProRes MOVs all work.

How long can the file be?

Up to 4 hours. Only the sound is converted, not the picture, so even a long video is quick.

The sound is noisy or too quiet. Can I fix it?

Yes. After converting, one click sends the same file to the background noise remover, the loudness normalizer or the buzz and hum remover. Cleaning is free to try; the free plan includes 3 downloads a month.
