How it works

  1. Drop your recording or video onto the box above: a lecture, a podcast, a talking-head video, an interview.
  2. AudioRinse finds every pause on your device and shortens each one to half a second.
  3. Switch between Original and Trimmed; A/B jumps to the same moment. Pick 0.25 s for a faster pace, 1 s for a calmer one.
  4. Download the trimmed recording as MP3, M4A or WAV, or the video as an MP4 with its picture cut at the same places.

Before / after

Hear it before you drop anything

“After” is AudioRinse at its default settings. The voice is synthetic, so we can share it freely.

This recording has long pauses between its sentences; after, each is half a second.

What it cuts, and what it leaves

It finds the stretches where nothing is said: dead air while someone thinks, a long breath between sentences, the wait before a speaker starts. Each pause longer than your chosen length (plus a quarter second) is shortened to that length, with half of it kept on either side, so a sentence never loses its last syllable or the breath before the next one.

The short gaps between words are far shorter than any setting and are never touched. Silence before the first sound and after the last is trimmed to a quarter of a second.

How it decides what's silence

It measures the loudness every 10 milliseconds and compares it with the recording itself: a moment counts as silent when it's down near the quietest parts of the file, well below the voice. So a pause with a fan or traffic behind it is still a pause, and a quiet speaker isn't mistaken for silence.

Videos

A video is cut at the same places as its sound: the frames inside each removed pause are dropped and the rest are encoded again as H.264, on your own device, so picture and sound stay in sync to the frame. A one-minute 720p video takes a few seconds.

On a talking-head video each cut shows as a small jump in the picture: the jump cut most YouTube videos are edited with.

Which length to pick

  • 0.25 s: tight and fast, for short videos, ads and Reels.
  • 0.5 s: natural, for lectures, podcasts and voice-overs. The default.
  • 1 s: relaxed, for storytelling, meditation or anything that should breathe.

Questions

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. AudioRinse runs the cleaning model inside your browser, on your own computer. Your file never leaves your device, so there's no upload to wait for and nothing stored on a server.

Will it cut into my words?

No. Only pauses longer than the length you pick (plus a quarter second) are touched, and each keeps half that length on both sides, so word endings and breaths stay. Each cut is joined with a 10 ms crossfade, so there's no click.

Can it remove silence from a video?

Yes. The picture is cut at the same places as the sound, so the two stay in sync, and you download an MP4 (video downloads are part of Pro). The trimmed sound alone comes as MP3, M4A or WAV.

Does it remove filler words like um and uh?

No. It shortens silence only; ums, uhs and breaths are sounds, so they stay.

Is it free?

Cleaning and listening are free and unlimited. You get 3 free downloads a month for audio files up to 10 minutes (1 without an account). Pro adds unlimited downloads, files up to 1 hour and video.
