Remove music from a video
Remove the background music from a video and keep the voices, in your browser. An AI model separates voice from music on your own computer. Free, no upload.
Drop a song here
MP3 · WAV · M4A · MP4 · MOV · WEBM — up to 15 min. Nothing is uploaded.
The model downloads once and stays in this browser, so the next song starts at once. Your song is never uploaded.
How it works
- Drop your video onto the box above (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV), or an audio file.
- An AI model separates the voices from the music on your computer. The first time, the model downloads once.
- Listen to the voices alone, the music alone, or both. Music still showing through? Separate again in Best quality.
- Download the video with only the voices as its sound, the picture copied as it is, or the audio on its own.
How it takes the music out
AudioRinse runs a source-separation model in your browser. It was trained to pull voices out of songs, and it does the same with speech: the voices go to one track, and everything that isn't a voice goes to the other with the music. The video's picture isn't touched; only its sound is replaced, so the download is ready to edit or post.
Best quality uses a newer, sharper model (Mel-Band RoFormer) and leaves less of the music under the voices. The page offers it where your graphics chip is fast enough.
When it helps
- A vlog, tutorial or reel with a song under it that you need to replace with music you have the rights to.
- An interview or talk filmed with music playing in the room or at an event.
- A clip you want to score again, or dub, without the original soundtrack.
What it can't do
Sound effects, applause and crowd noise aren't voices, so they usually go out with the music. Background noise that isn't music, like wind or traffic, may stay with the voices: run the result through the background noise remover for that. Where someone sings rather than speaks, the singing counts as a voice and stays.
Questions
Is my song uploaded anywhere?
No. The separation model runs inside your browser, on your own computer. Your song never leaves your device, so there's no upload to wait for and nothing stored on a server. The only download is the model itself, the first time.
Will this get rid of a copyright claim?
It takes the music out of the sound, so you can put in music you have the rights to. Whether a platform still matches the video is up to its own system: a faint remnant of the song under the voices can still be detected, more often with Standard than with Best.
Does the video keep its picture and quality?
Yes. The picture is copied packet for packet, not encoded again, so it's exactly as it was; only the sound track is new.
Can I keep the music and lose the voices instead?
Yes. Switch the voices off and the music on: the download is then the video with only its music.
Does it work on audio files too?
Yes: a podcast with a music bed, a recording of a talk over a band. Drop the audio file and download the voices as MP3, M4A or WAV.
How fast is it?
It depends on your graphics chip. A 4-minute song takes about 50 seconds on a gaming laptop's graphics card and about 3½ minutes on a 2020 laptop's built-in graphics; Best quality takes about three times as long where it's offered. Without WebGPU (some browsers, older computers) it runs on the processor: about 7 minutes on an 8-core laptop. The page shows the time left as it goes.
Why does the first song take longer?
The model downloads once: 126 MB for Standard, 464 MB for Best. It stays in your browser, so the next song starts at once, and it works with Wi-Fi off from then on.
How long can the song be?
Up to 15 min. Free downloads cover songs up to 10 minutes. On a computer with little memory the page takes less, and says so when you drop a longer file.
Is it free?
Separating and listening are free and unlimited. You get 3 free downloads a month for songs up to 10 minutes (1 without an account), and all the stems of one song count as one download. Pro adds unlimited downloads, songs up to 15 min and video.
