MP3 · WAV · M4A · MP4 · MOV · WEBM — up to 4 hours. Nothing is uploaded.
How it works
- Drop your MP4 onto the box above. MOV, WebM and M4A work too.
- WAV is already chosen: uncompressed 16-bit, at the file's own sample rate and channels.
- Download the WAV. Nothing is uploaded; it's made on your device.
- Sound noisy or too quiet? One click sends the same file to the noise remover or the loudness normalizer.
Why WAV
WAV is uncompressed: every sample written out as a number. That makes it the safe format to edit in Audacity, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, Logic or any DAW, because cuts, effects and a second export don't add another round of compression. It's also what many transcription and speech tools ask for.
It doesn't add quality: the WAV holds exactly the MP4's sound after decoding, sample for sample. It's about 10 MB per minute of 44.1 kHz stereo, 11 MB at 48 kHz.
What you get
- 16-bit PCM, the WAV every editor reads.
- The MP4's own sample rate (usually 44.1 or 48 kHz) and channels: mono stays mono, stereo stays stereo.
- Lined up to the sample with the video, so it drops back onto a timeline in sync.
- WAVs up to 1 GB, about an hour and a half of stereo. For longer files, M4A or MP3.
Questions
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs inside your browser, on your own device. Your file never leaves it, so there's no upload to wait for and nothing stored on a server.
Is it really free?
Yes. Converting is free with no limit, no account and no watermark. AudioRinse earns from its cleaning tools; the converters are here because a recording often needs both.
16-bit or 24-bit?
16-bit. The sound in an MP4 is compressed (usually AAC), and 16 bits hold everything it carries; 24 bits would only make the file bigger.
How long can the file be?
Up to 4 hours. Only the sound is converted, not the picture, so even a long video is quick.
The sound is noisy or too quiet. Can I fix it?
Yes. After converting, one click sends the same file to the background noise remover, the loudness normalizer or the buzz and hum remover. Cleaning is free to try; the free plan includes 3 downloads a month.
