How it works

  1. Drop a song onto the box above: MP3, M4A, WAV, or the sound of a video.
  2. The first 30 seconds are selected. Drag the handles to the part you want: the chorus, a riff, a line from a film.
  3. It fades in over half a second and out over two, so it doesn't start or stop abruptly. Play it to check.
  4. Download it for iPhone (M4R) or Android (MP3), free.

Putting it on your iPhone

  • With a Mac or a PC: connect the iPhone, open it in Finder (on Windows, the Apple Devices app or iTunes), and drag the M4R file onto it. It then shows in Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone.
  • Without a computer: save the file to Files, add it to a project in GarageBand on the iPhone, then press and hold the project in My Songs and choose Share → Ringtone.
  • An iPhone takes ringtones up to 40 seconds long; the page tells you if your selection is longer.

Putting it on an Android phone

Download the MP3 on the phone, or copy it over. Then open Settings → Sound (or Sound & vibration) → Phone ringtone, and pick it from your files; on most phones a file in the Ringtones or Music folder is listed there.

Picking the part

A ringtone is heard from its start, a few seconds at a time, so start on the part people know: the hook of the chorus, the first line of a riff. 20 to 30 seconds is plenty. Drag the start handle while it plays and you hear each new start at once.

Questions

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. AudioRinse cuts it inside your browser, on your own device. Your file never leaves it, so there's no upload to wait for and nothing stored on a server.

Is it free?

Yes, with no limit, no account and no watermark. AudioRinse earns from its cleaning tools.

What's an M4R file?

The format iPhone uses for ringtones: AAC sound in an MP4 file, the same as an M4A with another name. That's why an M4A renamed by hand often works too; this page saves it ready to use.

How long can a ringtone be?

Up to 40 seconds on an iPhone. Android has no fixed limit, but the ringtone starts over each time the call rings, so 30 seconds is plenty there too.

Can I make a ringtone from a video?

Yes. Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV: the ringtone maker takes its sound.
