Presets

The model downloads once and stays in this browser, so later transcripts start at once and work with Wi-Fi off. Your recording is never uploaded. Free: Fast transcripts without speaker labels, as text, SRT or VTT, no limit. Pro: Accurate, speaker labels, Word, NVivo and MAXQDA files. Your first Pro download is free with an account.

Otter details from otter.ai/pricing, checked November 2026. Otter Business ($30 a month, or $19.99 a month on the annual plan) raises the longest conversation to 4 hours and file imports to unlimited, up to 6,000 imported minutes a month.

When Otter is the better choice

Otter joins your meetings and transcribes them live, writes summaries and action items, and shares notes with a team. AudioRinse does none of that: it transcribes recordings you already have. If your work is live meetings, Otter is built for it.

AudioRinse is the better fit when you transcribe many or long recordings (interviews, lectures, podcasts, focus groups) and keep running into minute or import limits, or when a recording shouldn't leave your computer. Researchers can read the data-flow statement or use the interview transcriber with exports for NVivo and MAXQDA. For a noisy recording, remove the background noise first.

Questions

Is AudioRinse made by Otter.ai?

No. AudioRinse is an independent tool by Wikivec Inc. and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Otter.ai. Otter and Otter.ai are trademarks of Otter.ai, Inc.

Why is there no minute limit?

Because the transcription runs on your computer, an extra hour costs us nothing. Otter runs its transcription as a service, so its plans count minutes. Here the only limits are the recording's length (up to 3 hours) and your computer's speed.

How accurate is it?

The Accurate model (Whisper large-v3-turbo) got 8.3% of words wrong on three recorded hour-long interviews with professional reference transcripts, on a par with desktop Whisper tools on the same files. Clear speech close to the microphone helps the most.

Is it as fast as Otter?

Usually not. Your own computer does the work: Accurate runs at about the length of the recording on a 2020 laptop's built-in graphics and faster on newer ones, and the free Fast model at about twice real time on the processor. The first run also downloads the model once.

What's free?

The Fast model, as text, SRT or VTT, with no limit and no account. Pro adds the Accurate model, speaker labels, Word files and subtitles burned into videos, and covers every AudioRinse tool.
