Remove the voice from a video

Remove the talking from a video and keep its music and sound, or turn the voice down. An AI model separates them on your own computer. Free, no upload.

MP3 · WAV · M4A · MP4 · MOV · WEBM — up to 15 min. Nothing is uploaded.

The model downloads once and stays in this browser, so the next song starts at once. Your song is never uploaded.

How it works

  1. Drop your video onto the box above (MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV), or an audio file.
  2. An AI model separates the voices from everything else on your computer. The first time, the model downloads once.
  3. Listen to the music and sound without the voices, or keep the voices quieter with the Voices level slider. Voices still showing through? Separate again in Best quality.
  4. Download the video with what you hear as its sound, the picture copied as it is, or the audio on its own.

How it takes the voice out

A source-separation model runs in your browser and splits the sound into two tracks: the voices, and everything that isn't a voice, which keeps the music, the room and most other sounds. This page plays and downloads the second one, so the video keeps its soundtrack without the talking. The picture isn't touched; only the sound track is replaced.

Best quality uses a newer, sharper model (Mel-Band RoFormer) and leaves less of the voice behind. The page offers it where your graphics chip is fast enough.

When people remove the voice

  • A phone video with someone talking behind the camera, over the music or the moment you wanted to keep.
  • A clip to voice over again: take the old narration out and keep the music and atmosphere under the new one.
  • Dubbing: a music-and-effects track to record a new language over.
  • A dance, concert or event video where chatter near the phone drowns the performance.

What stays and what goes

Anything the model hears as a voice goes, including singing: in a music video the singer is removed with the talking, and the band stays. Laughter, shouts and crowd cheering are partly voices, so they may be removed or thinned. Steady sounds like wind, traffic or a fan mostly stay with the music.

To silence a video completely rather than remove only the voices, remove the audio from the video. To do the opposite and keep the voices without the music, use the music remover.

Questions

Is my song uploaded anywhere?

No. The separation model runs inside your browser, on your own computer. Your song never leaves your device, so there's no upload to wait for and nothing stored on a server. The only download is the model itself, the first time.

Can I keep the voice, just quieter?

Yes. Drag the Voices level slider, from the voices' original level down to 30 dB under it, or to Off. You hear it change as it plays, and the download is the mix you hear.

Is this the same as muting the video?

No. Muting removes every sound. This removes only the voices and keeps the music and the other sounds. To mute, use remove audio from video.

Does the video keep its picture and quality?

Yes. The picture is copied packet for packet, not encoded again, so it's exactly as it was; only the sound track is new.

Does it work on audio files too?

Yes. Drop an audio file and download the music and sound without the voices as MP3, M4A or WAV.

How fast is it?

It depends on your graphics chip. A 4-minute song takes about 50 seconds on a gaming laptop's graphics card and about 3½ minutes on a 2020 laptop's built-in graphics; Best quality takes about three times as long where it's offered. Without WebGPU (some browsers, older computers) it runs on the processor: about 7 minutes on an 8-core laptop. The page shows the time left as it goes.

Why does the first song take longer?

The model downloads once: 126 MB for Standard, 464 MB for Best. It stays in your browser, so the next song starts at once, and it works with Wi-Fi off from then on.

How long can the song be?

Up to 15 min. Free downloads cover songs up to 10 minutes. On a computer with little memory the page takes less, and says so when you drop a longer file.

Is it free?

Separating and listening are free and unlimited. You get 3 free downloads a month for songs up to 10 minutes (1 without an account), and all the stems of one song count as one download. Pro adds unlimited downloads, songs up to 15 min and video.
